This is New York's landmark historic Jewish neighborhood, which was once the world's largest Jewish community. It was here that the New York garment industry began. The Lower East Side is a true multicultural blend, with trendy boutiques, French cafés, and velvet-roped nightspots sprinkled among dry-goods discounters, Spanish bodegas, and mom-and-pop shops selling everything from T-shirts to designer fashions to menorahs. Orchard is lined with small shops purveying clothing and shoes at great prices.

The Lower East Side of Orchard Street began to evolve more than two hundred years ago, when extended families from around the world squeezed their hungry families into the tall tenement buildings that filled lower Manhattan.

Development has already begun in the Lower East Side for the first of four buildings between East Second Street to the north, Stanton Street to the south, the Bowery to the west and Second Avenue and Chrystie Street to the east. The property, which measures more than three acres, is traversed by East First Street and Houston Street.
